NARRATIVES

Technically, narratives are just monologues, but to novelists they are often a lifeline to escape the worlds they invent.  In the latter case, the form that a narrative takes depends on the mood of the author at the time.

Narratives can range from hilarious to deeply reflective.  Often they're coarse, gritty, and confronting.  Nearly always, they're recounts of real life events.

Essentially, narratives are a release valve.  Without them, good fiction writers, whose manufactured worlds become so real, could easily go insane.
