Irukandji Standard and Motto Irukandji Sims (hosted on Second Life 2007 - 2010)

This page pertains to Irukandji as hosted on the Second Life grid between February 2007 and January 2010.

If you are looking for a different time frame or grid, I hope to have those pages uploaded on the website soon.

If you're new to virtual worlds, you should have a quick look at the Virtual Worlds page to take all the mystery out of it.

Before we get into the individual sims, below are two maps of Irukandji to explain a few things.

The first is an aerial shot of the individual islands and seas of Irukandji.  It is a very large continent and the islands (sims) are clustered into states.  Each of the small squares is a sim.

The second map shows Irukandji's rivers and roads.  The Maskari River was the largest river in Second Life, and the Trans Irukandji Causeway at 32 kilometres long, was the largest privately owned road network on the Second Life grid.

Lava Club Tamita Island TAMITA ISLAND (Sim 2007-2010) is the capital of Tamita State and also the capital of Irukandji.

It was the very first sim I built.

For my first year in SL, Tamita Island consumed me completely, literally every waking hour as I honed my skills at construction, scripting, and fashion design.

The Chez Xay Mall build on Sunset Beach was my first major construction in early 2007.

Tamita Falls In hindsight, though basic, it was quite impressive with its slow spinning billboards on the roof and a boardwalk that led to rental houses on Barramundi Beach.

I added a dance club and forest walks across the island, and soon I had dozens of people flittering about the place and making new friendships.

meeting places in the many forest walks that criss crossed the island.

Tamita soon took on a resort feel.  I was happy with that and aptly named it the Chez Xay Tropical Island Resort.

Tamita Island The early days were great fun as I learned to manipulate textures and scripts, while meeting people from all around the world as they dropped in to check out my little sanctuary and to shop at the mall.

People began staying at the resort and soon it became too full to take any more.  So I started selling land and the rest as they say, is history.

Personally though, I never set out to become a land baron.  In fact, it was the last thing I wanted.  I came into SL to explore a new medium, to build, to create.

Bicentennial Palace, Tamita Island, Irukandji And on Tamita Island, I did.

During my time on Tamita, I created thousands and thousands of things, and sold them in massive numbers.

Throughout Tamita's history, it remained the centre of the Irukandji Continent, even when the Princes (the estate staff) moved to the Boyfriend Beach sim in faraway Palas State.

A palace always featured on Tamita Island and there were fifteen variations over the three years of its online life.

Tamita Summer Palace 2009 Cawarral Mansion was the first and then the larger version Rockhampton House.

Both were designed in the colonial style to represent Irukandji's history of British occupation before it gained independence.

As better graphics arrived, the resolution improved dramatically rendering every pre-2008 build obsolete, even grass and trees.

The island and its palaces and landscapes - everything - was levelled and rebuilt to suit the new viewer resolution.

Cale Topaz, Tamita Island 2010 But that's all I'm going to say of Tamita for now.  I could write a million words about this sim alone.

It pops up many times on other pages on the site so I won't overdo it here, except to say that it remains truly special in my heart.

You can also read the pieces on the Tales of Irukandji page for an insight into the folklore, memories, and myths that started on this truly amazing canvas that I call home.

The name Tamita is taken from a place in the Khataria series of novels, called Tamita Shoals.

Tamita Bay TAMITA BAY (Sim 2007-2010) was the second sim in the Irukandji continent.

I say the second sim, but it came online a few minutes before the other three bays surrounding Tamita Island - Minoan Atolls, Tiamo Reef, and Baie de l'Amore.

However, my house on Tamita Island faced Tamita Bay so naturally I developed that view first.

In 2009, Tamita Bay was deepened to form a sailing bay for the Royal Irukandji Yacht Club.

Seahorse Atoll Tamita Bay 2007While I did alter Tamita Bay over the years, most people remember it in its original form.

Tamita Bay was initially a beautiful shallow bay dotted with islets, and the most famous of those was Seahorse Atoll, named for its shape.

A knee deep stroll from Tamita Island and Alantay Island, the tiny atoll was peppered with deck chairs and umbrellas.

At night we set up slow dance animations and piped old romantic classics through the estate radio station.

Tamita Bay, Irukandji 2009 Locals from across Irukandji would migrate there at days end to meet up and just chat the night away.

Tamita Bay was also incredibly popular with new couples.

Many inworld romances took root on the majestic little atoll at the centre of the bay.

Tamita Bay truly was a magical playground.

Like Baie de l'Amore, which was thankfully never altered, Tamita Bay represented the true essence of Irukandji.

Royal Irukandji Yacht Club 2009 Over the next few years, the bay was deepened for sailing and eventually the little atoll had to go (it's still on my hard drive :))

Boating and watersports became so popular that a sailing club was inevitable, and in late 2008, the Royal Irukandji Yacht Club was constructed on Tamita Bay.

Underwater also came alive with the relocation of the Irukandji Fish Farm from Manatu Island to Tamita Bay.

There's a lot more I want to add here about Tamita Bay and I will do once I've finished writing about all the other sims.

Tiamo Reef 2007 TIAMO REEF (Sim 2007-2009) was the third sim in the Irukandji continent.

At this point, the knoweldge that Second Life was part of my first life had sunk in.

I'd dealt with the small minds who argued the case, as it made sense to me.  I'd invested so much of my artistic and spiritual self into Tamita Island, and that made it very real.

The downside was that I could see that in creating so much, I had also wrought destruction.

Tiamo Reef Sunrise I felt like a bit of a scoundrel in some ways, having started with a pristine island then developed it to serve my personal ends.

I felt like the 'white invader' forcing himself on nature like the colonialists of old.  I knew I was being hard on myself as 85% of Tamita Island remained virgin forest and there was no actual native population, but still.

I saw Tiamo Reef as a canvas to express my self-disappointment.  I imagined it to have once been the home of a local tribe who were driven to extinction by an invading neighbour who plundered their resources (blue marble) and bonded them into slavery.

The first tale of Irukandji was born, and its first monument.  See Tiamo Reef Memorial.

Tiamo Reef 2009 Within hours of writing it, I realised it would not be the last, and that Irukandji could become a political tool to challenge the minds of anyone who visited my world.

I also realised I had taken on the role of story teller, and to the people who were now living on my sims, their leader.

The concept of a post colonial 'banana republic' took form, and my estate team officially became known as the Princes of Irukandji.

It all began with Tiamo Reef, and strangely I felt more in touch with my Aboriginal roots that ever before.

The memory of my deep introspection of the time, and of the support I received from my land owners, still touches me almost 4 years later.

Tiamo is an Italian phrase that translates to 'I love you', but I actually named this sim after the song by Italian singer Umberto Tozzi that I liked as a youth (and still do).

Baie de L'Amore, Irukandji 2009 BAIE DE L'AMORE (Sim 2007-2009) was the fourth sim in the Irukandji continent and was designed and landscaped by hand.  It is an unpopulated bay with a central volcanic crater called Ragnarok Island.

Housed inside the crater is the Xavier T Gallery, similar in content to this website except that visitors can walk through it like a real gallery.

Baie de L'Amore The seas of Baie de l'Amore join Tamita Island, Nouvelle Kiribas, Grand Irukandji, and Convict Island.

It is a very popular technical sailing bay due to its submerged causeways and reefs, and a crashed airliner in one of the deep troughs is a delight for divers to explore over 100 breeds of tropical fish and sharks.

Xavier T Gallery Skybridge 2007 The Baie is also a major tributary of the Trans Irukandji Causeway, much of which is permanently below water throughout the sim, traversable only by 4WD or Amphib.

Baie de L'Amore Skybridge 2008 The Maskari River passes through the western edge of Baie de l'Amore and in the north forks to join with the Odin River that travels through the northwest of Irukandji.

With the downsizing of the estate in 2009 due to spiralling costs, the Irukandji Naval Base and XT Automotive & Marine were relocated to the lee of the mountain from Kalamantayo and Crystal Atolls.

Minoan Atolls Irukandji 2007 MINOAN ATOLLS (Sim 2007-2010) was the fifth sim in the Irukandji continent and was designed and landscaped by hand.

It is a large bay with sweeping beaches on three sides, and a central flat island.

In its earliest guise, Minoan Atolls was open recreational space designed to service the residents of Tamita Island.

Extremely popular was its long flat beaches and shallow seas for snorkeling and swimming.

Part of Minoa's initial appeal was its little island landing strip, Irukandji's first air field, which led to several residents buying planes and helicopters to tour around the islands.
Irukandji Public Works Minoan Atolls
When air traffic proved too much to manage, the airstrip was moved to Hephaistion to accommodate larger aircraft.

The central island of Minoan was then re-terraformed to form a larger atoll.  For a short while, it became home to the Irukandji Public Works depot, and then later to a German couple who built a homestead there.

Minoan Atolls 2009 The adjoining shore with Tamita Island never changed throughout the life of Irukandji and remained a popular playground beach for locals.

Throughout Minoa's life, it remained a vital section of the Trans Irukandji Causeway, as can be seen clearly in both photos from 2007 and 2009.

The northern shore of Minoan Atolls abuts Grand Irukandji and to the west it joins Cabria Island.

An elevating bridge provides boat and vehicular access to several sims.

Yet despite all of its grand functionality, Minoan Atolls retained its 'banana republic' charm, and everything blended in surprisingly well.

Geographically and functionally, Minoan Atolls is an extremely integral part of Irukandji.

Alantay Island, Irukandji 2007 ALANTAY ISLAND (Sim 2007-2009) is located west of Tamita Bay and south of Baie de Citron.

Its design is a low lying atoll, criss-crossed with canals.  Alantay featured a marina at its centre and a waterfall playground, with several blocks islands unto themselves.

Alantay Island was the sixth sim built on the Irukandji continent and was designed and landscaped by hand.

Alantay Island was the second sim on which I offered land for sale, basically so I could reclaim Tamita Island for myself again.

Alantay Marina, Alantay Island, Irukandji 2007 Alantay sold out in 2 weeks which at the time was an SL record, and its popularity spawned similar islands like Manatu, Pinjarra, Valkyrie, and Coolangatta.

At its peak, Alantay Island supported a population of around 60 people from USA, England, France, Turkey, Italy, Germany, and New Zealand.

Land rarely changed hands on Alantay and when it did, the properties sold for a premium.

Alantay was a very popular island and many of its residents remained there throughout its entire life.

Nouvelle Kiribas 2007 NOUVELLE KIRIBAS (Sim 2007-2009) was the seventh sim in the Irukandji continent and was designed by hand as a steppe island to cater for residents who wanted an elevated view.

Proving impractical, the steppes were replaced with a single monolithic mountain named Mount Kiribati, for which the island was famous.

Nouvelle Kiribas, Irukandji Nouvelle Kiribas remained largely unchanged over the years except to extend the almost unreachable pool at its centre to the main channels of the Maskari River.

This tributary finally allowed us to make the northwest corner of Irukandji accessible by boat to the southeast which eventually led to the formation of Jillaroo Estate.

Nouvelle Kiribas basically means New Kiribati.

Natives of Kiribati pronounce it 'Keereebas' which - correct me if I'm wrong - is pidgin for 'Gilberts', ie when Kiribati was called Gilbert Island.

Like the other Irukandji islands, Nouvelle Kiribas had its own history - see Gods of Irukandji.

Manatu Island, Irukandji 2009 MANATU ISLAND (Sim 2007-2009) was the eighth sim in the Irukandji continent and was styled on the earlier Alantay Island.

Manatu supports a population of around 20 people predominantly from USA, Australia, and Spain.

It has a long history - see Tale of the Twin Pearls, and is also home to the Irukandji Fish Farm which sells scripted tropical fish.

Much more info to come.

Pinjarra Island PINJARRA ISLAND (Sim 2007-2009) was the ninth sim in the Irukandji continent and was designed by hand as a blend of Tamita and Alantay Islands.

It features a tall split mountain and a network of narrow canals surrounded by bays.

Pinjarra supports a population of around 30 people and has two major tenants from New Zealand and USA.

Pinjarra's history is linked closely to that of Manatu - see Tale of the Twin Pearls and The Tamita-Pinjarra War.

Mount Aboyo Island 2007 MOUNT ABOYO ISLAND (Sim 2007-2009) is one of three sims I purchased simultaneously following the rapid uptake of land on Alantay, Manatu, and Pinjarra.

The three sims formed an L shape wrapping around Minoan Atolls, and Mount Aboyo Island was the first sim subdivided for sale.

Mount Aboyo featured flat blocks and winding canals much like previous offerings.

The lay of the blocks however was deliberately haphazard as I was bored with repeating the same type of sim over and over again.

Mount Aboyo Island 2007 The uptake of land on Mount Aboyo was fast, though perhaps not as fast as the plainer sims, which offered nice square blocks to build on.

It was a good learning curve for me, as I made a few mistakes in my thinking as to what the vast majority of people wanted when they were looking to buy land.

Two major landowners however did use their ingenuity and build considerable homesteads on Mount Aboyo that overflowing into the neighbouring sims of Cabria Island and Tora Tora Passage.

Tora Tora Passage 2007 TORA TORA PASSAGE (Sim 2007-2008) was one of three sims surrounding Minoan Atolls.

Tora Tora Passage (yes, named very tongue in cheek) was the land-locked of the three.

It was a flat sim with small hills and large subdivisions.  The Aboyo River flows through all three sims, and the lay of the land gave itself to homesteads that for reasons unknown, took on a strangely 'rural America' look.

Tora Tora Passage never really took off, perhaps because it was land locked.

In 2009, I broke up Tora Tora Passage into four low-density sims.  One of those, Toraboyo Beach, I placed over the top of its predecessor.

Cabria Island CABRIA ISLAND (Sim 2007-2009) is the third of the three sims that formed an L shape around Minoan Atolls.

Cabria was quite popular, perhaps made even moreso when I attached another bay, Upper Aboyo Passage, to its northern shore.

Cabria Island had a number of large and small land owners, and throughout its history, blocks rarely changed hands.

Cabria Island, Irukandji 2007 When they did, buyers paid a premium for the privilege.

The builds on Cabria Island were very well designed and built, and complimented the feel of the estate.

When I began decommissioning Irukandji on the Second Life grid in late 2009, I sold the Cabria Island sim to one of my former land owners, Myles Capalini.

Myles had been a long term resident on several sims, including the adjacent island, Grand Irukandji.

GRAND IRUKANDJI (Sim 2007-2009) was a new concept, or rather a return to the original concept of Irukandji, that is, a quality estate with unique landscapes.

Diagonally adjacent to Tamita Island and sharing two of its bays, Grand Irukandji featured a half-caldera, a river, a long flat beach, and a towering summit, later named Mount Irukandji.

Grand Irukandji Grand Irukandji was quickly settled by residents looking for a unique landscape.

Two major tenants eventually dominated the island and they did so in grand style.

Their buildings and landscaping were amongst the largest and most beautiful ever built in Irukandji.

The towering Mount Irukandji had such a large footprint that it overflowed into three adjoining sims, Tongabuti Bay, Weta Island, and Upper Aboyo Passage.

To the south, Grand Irukandji bordered picturesque Minoan Atolls, and to the west, the spectacular Baie de l'Amore.

The sim's southwest corner joined with Tamita Island, allowing me to build a causeway and continuous walking trail between Irukandji's two most picturesque sims.

Upper Aboyo Passage, Irukandji Grand Irukandji marked a return to quality over quantity, and saw the end of the traditional Alantay-style islands that were made for quick settlement.

These were definitely the halcyon days of Irukandji, and the start of a massive expansion of the continent in all directions.

UPPER ABOYO PASSAGE (Sim 2007-2009) is a deepwater sea lane with underwater canyons and a crescent shaped landmass at its centre.

Upper Aboyo Passage 2007 Upper Aboyo has had a varied population over the years, most notable of which was a Belgian tenant who rebuilt the Marseille palace there in remarkable detail.

Upper Aboyo Passage is the northernmost sim in Aboyo State and a major conduit for the Aboyo River.

Upper Aboyo borders Weta Island, Grand Irukandji, Cabria Island and Jackaroo Island.

It is presently home to a small experimental housing estate.

Weta Island 2007 WETA ISLAND (Sim 2007-2009) is a residential sim due northeast of Grand Irukandji, and south of Horn of Weta.

Weta Island lies in the lee of Mount Irukandji and to the north, in the rolling foothills of the Horn of Weta.

A waterfall in the foothills feeds into the river that cleaves the island, and marks the farthest tributary of the Maskari River which traverses the entire kingdom.

Road access to Weta Island is via the Trans Irukandji Causeway which enters through Tongabuti Bay and passes over the Horn of Weta and into Weta Rim.

Weta Rim 2008 Weta Island largely became an enclave for German settlers.  Two American couples also built homesteads on the banks of the Maskari.

WETA RIM (Sim 2007-2009) is a low density island with a central common area for the use of residents.

Weta Rim marks the eastern most end of the Trans Irukandji Causeway.

A number of custom-built mansions sat on the cliff tops overlooking an uninterrupted seaview.

Horn of Weta HORN OF WETA (Sim 2007-2009) was a promontory in the far northeast of Irukandji, and part of Weta State.

The Horn spent most of its life as a forested mountain with a few rental bungalows for reclusive types.

Its name was a play on words, irreverently testing how far I could push the naming censorship policies of SL, especially given the island's obvious phallic shape.

SL however, never picked up on what became a long running local joke.

Other facetitious names like the various Aboyo sims and Tongabuti Bay gave us a giggle over the years.

Tongabuti Bay, Irukandji 2007 TONGABUTI BAY (Sim 2007-2009) is a leisure and holiday sim cradled in the lee of Mount Irukandji.

Tongabuti's centrepiece is the long bridge which forms part of the Trans Irukandji Causeway, that crossed the island.

The original design shown in the first picture was a series of arched verticals for boats and jetskis to pass beneath.

It was also a four way bridge that connected the four surrounding sims.

Tongabuti Bay 2009 In 2008, the bridge was replaced with a 'long span' bridge and terraced dock to berth large yachts.

The western arm of the Trans Irukandji Causeway was removed, and diverted back through Grand Irukandji and Baie de l'Amore.

Residential land was offered but never sold on Tongabuti Bay, but in the early days a row of holiday houses proved popular with rental tenants.

Later in the piece, a number of yacht owners set up home on Tongabuti Bay.

Convict Island 2007 CONVICT ISLAND (Sim 2007) followed the 'forgotten kingdom' theme of Irukandji, and was our first and only real foray into setting up a role playing sim.

In its earlier guise, Convict Island featured a gladiatorial stadium, slave cages, and so on.

I gave two eager land owners free reign to let their imaginations go wild, hence the terraforming and structures in the first picture aren't my doing.

Convict Island 2008 They did a great job - a really great job actually - but for reasons unknown, these types of RPG never really took off in Irukandji.

This was probably because Irukandji had so many other public places, love parks, themed roleplaying etc, for people to enjoy.

In its second guise, I leased Convict Island to a local brothel owner who built her first business there.

A little concerned by its close proximity to central Irukandji, I eventually moved them to outlying Jackaroo Island and reclaimed Convict Island as a normal sim.

Mount Krustallos, Irukandji MOUNT KRUSTALLOS (Sim 2007) is a tall blue mountain surrounded by sea, connected to neighbouring Hephaistion by a broad spit.

Although nothing like its snowy namesake from the Khataria novels, it was intended to be the first of a series of Khatarian themed sims that never eventuated.

For several months, Mount Krustallos served as home to a single land-owner who built a modest house on a secluded northern beach.

After a number of transformations, the sim was eventually renamed Splitrock Mountain and terraformed to accommodate the Royal Irukandji Naval Base ahead of our invasion of the French-held Kalamat territories to the west.
Hephaistion Palace Irukandji 2007
HEPHAISTION (Sim 2007) - Later renamed Boyfriend Beach, Hephaistion was originally conceived as a residential sim in a similar vein to Grand Irukandji.

I based Hephaistion on the original Tamita Island raw file but with deeper rivers and higher elevation.

A tall sloping hill ran almost the entire length of the island to accommodate a runway for large aircraft using the new Irukandji Airport, which replaced the smaller airstrip on Minoan Atolls.

Hephaistion Beach Club Hephaistion was a fun sim with a Lava Club, large shopping mall with several outside retailers, and a dozen rental houses that enjoyed high occupancy.

Changes on Hephaistion became necessary when the Princes moved into a new palace called Government House after running out of prims on Tamita Island, and the Irukandji Airport began generating too much traffic.

From that point on - and largely for marketing purposes - the sim was renamed Boyfriend Beach, a decision in hindsight that I regret.

Arms of Patroklos, Irukandji 2007 ARMS OF PATROKLOS (Sim 2007) Later renamed Palace Lagoon, Arms of Patroklos was a surfing sim north of Hephaistion.

It was surrounded by a thin walled caldera and small beaches and from an aerial view looked liked an embracing pair of arms.

The name Patroklos was taken from Greek myth, as was Hephaistion, for the lovers of Achilles and Alexander respectively.

Patroklos was later renamed Palace Lagoon and flattened to better suit the new theme of Boyfriend Beach after Hephaistion too was renamed.

In its original form, Patroklos is best remembered for its high-angled bridge that rose from the beach near neighbouring Valkyrie Island to the summit on Hephaistion, from where - in typical bush style - it then became the main runway for the Irukandji Airport.

Boyfriend Beach 2009 BOYFRIEND BEACH (Sim 2008-2009) is named for the extensive winter palace district that dominated Boyfriend Beach and surrounded sims.  much much more to come.

The Palace itself was a monolithic structure called Goverment House.

The smaller version of the palace is pictured at right, which is a refinement of the original Cawarral Mansion from Tamita Island.

Boyfriend Beach was originally named Hephaistion but proved to be too much of a mouthful for the average visitor, so it was renamed purely for marketing purposes.

The sim used the original landscape from Tamita Island, rotated 90 degrees in Photoshop, and then a large tract of the Odin River cleaved through its northern beach.

Beneath this beautiful landscape ran the massive submarine channel called the Royal Aqueduct.

Due to a prim shortage on Tamita Island, Boyfriend Beach became the capital of Irukandji for most of 2008 until new SL pricing forced me to decommission much of the estate.

The island changed shape several times to facilitate new additions and themes but each stayed true to the palatial theme.  It was very regal.

Boyfriend Beach has a massive history, far too great to record here, and I know there are many people out there in the "real" world who remember it fondly.

Valkyrie Shoals, Irukandji 2007 VALKYRIE SHOALS (Sim 2008-2009), while a low density sim, had a very significant history.

Almost unique to Irukandji sims, it was also one of the few to never undergo major re-terraforming.

A very technical section of the Trans Irukandji Causeway traversed Valkyrie Shoals, joining Valkyrie Island to Boyfriend Beach and onwards to the western states of Jillaroo and Kalamat.

In late 2007, Valkyrie Shoals also became home to the Irukandji Police following a prim shortage on Tamita Island.

Valkyrie Shoals, Irukandji 2008 The move worked out quite well, given the close proximity to the rest of the estate team at the palace on the adjoining sim.

Valkyrie Shoals adjoined Nouvelle Kiribas to the south, Boyfriend Beach to the west, and Valkyrie Island to the north.

It draws its name from Norse mythology, following on from Ragnarok Island on Baie de l'Amore.

The northern edge of Valkryie Shoals provided a deep sloping beach for residents of Valkyrie Island.

Valkyrie Island VALKYRIE ISLAND (Sim 2008-2009) lies northeast of Hephaistion, north of Valkyrie Shoals, and east of Palace Lagoon.

With two picturesque bays and a gently sloping landscape with the Odin River running through, Valkyrie Island is a pleasant sim with a sense of light suburbia.

One or two larger landowners have residences on Valkyrie Island but the majority of the blocks were small.

At its peak, Valkyrie Island was home to around thirty residents, and its close proximity to the facilities on Hephaistion made it a popular place to live.

Irukandji Airport, Crystal Atolls, Irukandji 2008 CRYSTAL ATOLLS (Sim 2008-2009) always seemed a lot bigger than it was.

Southeast of Hephaistion and bordered on three sides by large bays, Crystal Atolls was predominatly residential on secluded seaside blocks.

Its feature however was the sprawling Irukandji Airport complex, which was moved from Hephaistion to allow for jet landings.

Crystal Atolls was also home to XT Automotive and Marine which is my inworld automotive business specialising in amphibious cars, trucks, and boats.

Palace Lagoon, Irukandji 2008 Despite Crystal Atoll's industry, its nearness to Hephaistion ensured that the sim remained picturesque and fitted in with the tropical island theme of greater Irukandji.

PALACE LAGOON (Sim 2008-2009) first began life as the Arms of Patroklos sim.

As Palace Lagoon, it was the overflow playground of Boyfriend Beach which sprawled well beyond its boundaries, featuring memorable meeting places like the Hephaistion Beach Club.

Palace Lagoon was also a place of great myth.

Someone once asked me why there was so much gold in Irukandji builds, and I decided that we needed to have an endless supply somewhere.

Baie de Citron, Irukandji 2009 That's where Palace Lagoon came in.  Diving down underwater, one could see that the seabed was made of solid gold with fish swimming all about it.

The seabed of Palace Lagoon is really quite a spectacular sight.

BAIE DE CITRON (Sim 2008-2009) is a bay with a small central island located in the Palace District in central Irukandji.

For most of its life, Citron had an American couple living on the island, while the seaways remained public thoroughfares for sailing regattas.

Baie de Citron, Irukandji 2009 With its close proximity south of Boyfriend Beach and adjacent to Valkyrie Shoals (home of Irukandji Police), the bay served as a conduit between "old Irukandji" and the newer islands in western Kalamat.

CORAKI LAGOONS (Sim 2008) details to come.

TANAWAYO BAY (Sim 2008) details to come.

JACKAROO ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.

TUVALU STRAITS (Sim 2008) details to come.

BYRON BAY (Sim 2008) is located northwest of Boyfriend Beach and east of Coraki Lagoon was a sea-sim with a corner of land on the beach at Coraki.

Byron takes its name from the town in NSW for no specific reason.  Byron Bay was significant in that it was the sim that linked the "old Irukandji" continent with the newer Jillaroo estate.

A 200 metre long stone-and-concrete bridge was erected, part of the Trans Irukandji Causeway that fully traversed the sim, so tall that a four mast sailing ship could pass underneath.

Byron was definitely a landmark.  The sim was decommissioned in November 2008.  At present, no photos have surfaced, and this is a definite shame.

BARRAMUNDI BAY (Sim 2008) details to come.

CAPTAIN COOK REEF (Sim 2008) details to come.

COOLANGATTA (Sim 2008) is an Alantay-style island in Jillaroo State, located north of Byron Bay, and east of Tanawayo Bay.

It takes its name from a suburb of the Gold Coast for no particular reason.  Coolangatta was a budget island designed to cater to people who couldn't afford the escalating tier fees around SL.

Unfortunately, it attracted some awful residents (can I call them utter pricks?) and I'd prefer to shut the experience from my memory.

Coolangatta was decommissioned in November 2008 and thankfully I have no photographs to remember it.

MANTARAY SHOALS (Sim 2008) details to come.

WHITSUNDAY ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.

GREAT KEPPEL ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.

YEPPOON ATOLLS (Sim 2008) details to come.

TASMAN SEA (Sim 2008) details to come.

OLD FORT ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.

Kebo Atoa Lagoon, Irukandji 2009 KEBO ATOA LAGOON (Sim 2008-2009) was a crescent shaped island with a central atoll.

Located in the far south of Irukandji, it gained a population quickly and featured several nice looking homes.

It was designed and landscaped by hand as I wanted a blank canvas given its distance from the main Irukandji continent.

AQUITAINE BAY (Sim 2008) details to come.

SPLITROCK MOUNTAIN (Sim 2008) Split Rock Mountain came about in the wake of our 'conquest' of the French territories in the west and featured a submarine channel that passed beneath three neighbouring sims.  See the tale Liberation of Kalamat.

Unfortunately, the sim's fate along with the rest of Irukandji was to be decommissioned due to Second Life's maddened policy changes of 2008 which saw land devalued to zero, and then a 70% hike in server fees.  Split Rock Mountain was decommissioned in January 2009.

TORABOYO BEACH (Sim 2008-2009) details to come.

Sulawesi Bay Irukandji 2009 SULAWESI BAY (Sim 2008) is a deepwater bay with a central flat atoll surrounded by low hills.

As with other sims of this style such as Baie de Citron and Old Fort Island, Sulawesi Bay was based on the raw file generated by the long-ago Baie de l'Amore.

Sulawesi Bay had one tenant who occupied the central island until I was forced to decommission the sim a few months later.

Regrettably things were winding down at this stage due to the exodus of land owners and estate owners from Second Life (1000 sims closed in 2009, and 800 more in 2010).

Bay of Plenty 2009 BAY OF PLENTY (Sim 2008) is located west of Alantay Island and south of Crystal Atolls, was the 42nd sim to be added to the Irukandji continent.

It is a large bay with a flat triangular island on its western edge.

Its landscape was designed in Photoshop and the sim was originally intended to mark the western-most edge of Irukandji.

The creation of the later Kalamat district changed those plans, but that changeability of the canvas is the great attraction of virtual worlds.

Bay of Plenty had several people living on the island during its short life.

CABRIA LAGOON (Sim 2008-2009) details to come.

IRUKANDJI SOUND (Sim 2008) details to come.

GRAND ABOYO ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.

Kalamantayo Island, Irukandji 2008 KALAMANTAYO ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.

PLAGE DE KALAMAT (Sim 2008) details to come.

BAIE DE TRIOMPHE (Sim 2008) was an untimely sim, built only weeks before the introduction of SL policies that would bring about its demise.

Triomphe was part of Kalamat and was never settled.

RAINBOW REEF (Sim 2008) details to come.

SUNSET SHOALS (Sim 2008) details to come.

PALU ISLAND (Sim 2008) details to come.
