Jim
Happy Birthday!
You may not be aware of this, but for years now you've supported many people through the journey that is their life, you have guided us through the highs and lows, giving light in the dark and hope when there was none, giving joy when there was sadness and even more joy when there has been happiness. All this has come through your music.
To some music is just that, music, to us it is more than that. To ruin a quote by someone who's name escapes me right now "Music is not a matter of life or death - It's much more important than that".
For me, your music has been there, helping me through the hard times and bringing added joy to the good times.
I remember everything as if it happened only yesterday - it was the first party that I'd ever gone to as a teenager, first underage drink, first kiss and the first time I heard the album Bat Out Of Hell. How amazing to listen to Paradise By The Dashboard Light, knowing that less than an hour before a similar scene had been played out in a darkened bedroom upstairs at the party. Needless to say that album has stayed a constant friend to me ever since then.
It didn't take long for the love of your music to grow, Deadringer, Bad For Good, Streets Of Fire, Total Eclipse, Pandoras Box. How the list grew, how the collection grew, how the memories grew even fonder and stronger and more distinct despite the passing of time.
I can't imagine a day without your songs. It would be like a day without the sun or a night without the moon and the stars. Every time I listen to one of your creations it's as fresh as when I heard it for the first time, there's always something magic and there's always something new.
I don't need to sleep on it Jim, I know I'll love you and your music forever.
May your birthday have brought you everything you wish for. Here's to many more. And Jim, please, please, please, keep feeding our addiction to your music. To many, like me and the other contributors to this book, your music is such a large part of our lives we crave new material. We know you won't let us down.
