JIM STEINMAN PACIFICA

The Jim Steinman "Yearbook 2000" Birthday Project

Introduction

To Jim

What can I say to introduce such a publication as this?

Ninety-three people have joined hands to make this Yearbook possible. It's called a Yearbook in the sense that the many people who have spared their time to take part have done so this year - it's a cross-section of your fan-base at one given point in time, and the year-2000 celebration of your birth seemed an ideal occasion. Perhaps though, the book is best described as an anthology. Many participants have jotted down their thoughts in verse, of what Jim Steinman means to them, while others have opted for an artistic display, and others again have just spoken directly from the heart.

All corners of the world are represented, giving the project such an amazingly international feel. It is worth noting that every person involved in the Yearbook has come from the internet community. Word of mouth has travelled around the web with few souls meeting face to face to bring this all together, yet it has reached fruition. I'm left in awe by the realisation that the internet community is only a small part of the greater Jim Steinman fan-base. How enormous would this project have been if the average man in the street knew of it's existence? What if every person who admired Jim Steinman had joined in this project; everyone who had been left dazzled when Tanz Der Vampire first captivated Vienna, or every teenage rebel who had been left shattered and numb when Bat Out Of Hell was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world? If such had happened, then this would not have been an anthology, but a tome - a book of such immense proportions that it would have rivalled the greatest epic ever written.

Such ponderings are mind-blowing, but you'll see by the diverse group of people who have co-authored the Yearbook, that your audience is more devout today than it has ever been. Whatever medium each contributor has chosen to express their sentiments, the message remains constant. Everyone within, has been touched. Everyone within, knows and appreciates the beauty that you bring to the world. Such beauty is timeless and precious and rare, and such gifts as the ones that you possess, are equally so.

Happy Birthday Jim

From your fans around the world.

*** Immense thanks to Sandra Zuydwijk who really kept the ball rolling throughout. ***
