Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD) is a series of extremely light moves designed to help drain lymphatic fluid from our bodies.
Our lymph nodes and vessels can become blocked for various reasons ranging from common viruses to poor diet to major operations. Symptoms may include sluggishness, fatigue and swelling. Infection and illness invariably follow.
Since most of our luteals (lymphatic vessels) and lymph nodes lie just beneath the skin, the moves in MLD are extremely light. The result is to open congested vessels and nodes, thus moving waste and fluid from the tissue spaces between our organs.
MLD is often recommended to people who have oedema and cellulite. it is also a common therapeutic tool following a mastectomy or similar operation, where lymph nodes containing cancerous tissue have been removed.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a very specialised field, and your Remedial Therapist will usually work in conjunction with your Doctor, Naturopath or Physiotherapist, depending on the nature of the problem.
As with all health modalities, always ensure that your Therapist is qualified to perform this type of massage.
